Students at The Mark Way School took part in a community arts project funded by Andover Town Council to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War 1. On Saturday 10th November, a Remembrance event was held in Vigo Park where, with reference to the 215 names on the War Memorial in Andover, 215 life-sized soldier figures will be on display.
The Mark Way School have ‘adopted’ 9 soldier figures and have been busy thinking about how to decorate the figures to best mark this occasion. On Friday 12th October, for SMSC day, students took part in various World War 1 activities including writing soldier diary entries, postcards home to loved ones, food rationing and war time recipes and looking at some World War 1 artefacts.
Each soldier has been decorated differently and students have used a range of techniques such as papier mache, block printing, painting, collage and digital art. We were very proud to see our soldiers on display at this special event.
