Year 11 have researched the work of Wayne Thiebaud and Jeff Nebeker and created these clay food sculptures in response. They look good enough to eat!

The final element of our ASDAN work was planning and joining a camping trip.

Students planned for risks, accommodation, equipment, activities and worked together to ensure that the night’s camping was fun and healthy.

We had a great visit to the local farm and spent time hearing about farm work both agriculture and countryside sports.

Key Stage 3 have been exploring and learning new skills and machines.

• Year 7 have learnt about Health and Safety in the workshop, used hand tools and the laser cutter to make acrylic key rings.
• Year 8 have investigated and created their own applique cushions.
• Year 9 have designed and made their own sports drinks.

In IT we have been using robots for coding and designing. We made robots which can draw patterns which we can change. We coded these using Lego NXT Software.

We have also been coding software which allow us to paint on the computer where we are in control of the size, shape and colour of the lines. We coded this using Scratch online coding software.

In the maths lessons pupils have been using objects and manipulatives to help them.

Pupils have been reading about money, discussing and thinking about how we use it day to day. Pupils have also been learning how to work out change.

In numeracy key skills pupils have been building shapes using polydron and discussing how many faces, edges and vertices the shapes have.

Students are exploring ukulele in music lessons. Trying out different chords and strumming patterns. In Drama students are currently working on script work and devising scenes on different topics.

Year 9 have been investigating what things dissolve in hot water.

During our Social Skills lesson we have been focusing on care in the community. Pupils shopped at the local supermarket, who donated cakes and biscuits, which we then served to the residents at the Rothsay Care Home.

Thrive Day

Each term we have a whole school Thrive day. This is a chance for each tutor group to work together to help, support and improve their social and emotional well-being, both as individuals and as a group. Various activities are arranged by the tutor. Some take place in the school and other tutors decide on a local trip in the local area.

Each term we take the students who have individual Thrive session out for a trip. We visit Andover Riverside Bowl, Truxton Circuit, Bourne Valley Pick your own, various cafes in Andover.

The students in KS3 have a group Thrive session once a week. In these sessions we support their social and emotional wellbeing. This can involve, playing board and card games, various activities based on the virtue of the week, playing party games, listening to a story, doing sensory activities, making paper airplanes and seeing whose can fly the furthest or just relaxing in each others company.

We are lucky enough to take some of our Year 7 students to Andover Riding for the Disabled. This is the most amazing opportunity for our young people. We have also bee lucky enough to have a Therapy dog in school. Arlo was a very welcome visitor on a Tuesday afternoon.
